A late touchdown sealed a win for the Sault Steelers on Saturday night at Rocky DiPietro Field.

Ryan Yost secured a 14-6 Steelers victory over the Hamilton Jaguars in Northern Football Conference action.

For the Steelers, it was a rebound win after the locals dropped a 22-6 decision on the road last weekend in Sarnia against the Imperials.

With just over five minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Yost scored on a four-yard touchdown run to give the Steelers the lead for good after the teams traded scores in the opening quarter.

Hamilton opened the scoring early in the game when Austin Dale recovered a fumble and ran it in from 15 yards out to give the visitors a 6-0 lead.

The Steelers wasted little time recovering though as Steve Hiiemaa punched the ball in from four yards out to get the Steelers on the board on their next possession.

Brady Smith hit a pair of converts for the Steelers in the win.

Alonzo Clarke had a big day as well offensively for the Steelers, running the ball for 100 yards on 23 carries in the victory.

In addition to the touchdown run, Yost completed seven of 13 pass attempts for 83 yards for the Steelers.

Dan Leduc caught five passes for 67 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Michael Reid had nine tackles for the Steelers while Justin Cond added six. Darrian Belkosky and Andrew Batman chipped in with five each while Belkosky had a pair of sacks and Batman added one.

Offensively for Hamilton, receiver Andrea Bailey caught five passes for 75 yards in the loss.

Quarterback Josh Madden completed 10 of 19 passes for 120 yards for Hamilton.

Defensively for the Jaguars, Swichshon Spring had seven tackles and a sack while Mike Maswa had six tackles and a pair of sacks.

With the win, the Steelers improve to 3-1 on the NFC season and sit in a tie with the Tri-City Outlaws and North Bay Bulldogs atop the NFC standings.

Both Tri-City and North Bay are 3-0 with both teams having already had their bye weeks.

With the Canada Day long weekend on the horizon, the entire league is off next week. The Steelers return to action on July 8 when they’re on the road in North Bay.
