Niagara Spears Join NFC

The Northern Football Conference is excited to add the Niagara Spears to our list of Member Clubs.
Please welcome the Niagara Spears to the NFC. The NFC is excited to bring another great organization and football team to challenge the NFC alumni.
At the Fall NFC meeting – the member clubs voted in the Niagra Spears organization for the 2019 NFC Season. The Spears are our newest expansion club. A solid football organization with a long history. They currently have a great youth program with the full complement of Bantam, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. Now they are ready to play with the men.
As has been standard practice for a number of years. As a new member of the NFC – Niagara has a few conditions and restrictions on who they can register as a player for their first 3 seasons in NFC.
The Niagara Spears registration conditions/restrictions for their first 3 seasons in the NFC – 2019, 2020 and 2021 are as follows:

1 – Zero Players from Steel City Patriots and Oakville Longhorns – the Niagara Spears may not sign any player who was registered with either the Steel City Patriots or Oakville Longhorns in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 NFC Seasons.

2 – No more than 2 players from any other NFC team up to a maximum of 6 players per year.

*These registration conditions / restrictions are in effect for 2019, 2020 and 2021 NFC seasons. The purpose of this is to ensure that the Niagara Spears bring new players to the NFC.
*If a Player signed and played with SCP or OAK during the 2016, 2017 or 2018 NFC season- the Niagara Spears are unable to sign that player until 2022.
*To be clear – there is no waiting period. If the player’s name was on an SCP or OAK roster in 2016, 2017 or 2018 NFC season – Niagara cannot sign them until the 2022 NFC season.
*These conditions / restrictions apply to players only and not coaches, or other volunteers.
Please direct inquiries back to your member clubs or the NFC Executive for clarification.

Congratulations to the 2017 NFC Champions

For the GTA Allstars it was a perfect season. It all began on May 27th 2017 with a 14-0 victory over a game-ready Ottawa team. As the weeks went on the questions about the abilities of the GTA AllStar team to live up to their 2016 season fell to the side as did their opponents. The coaching and the players refined their skills and played great football. As the season moved forward it became obvious that the GTA Allstars were excellent on all sides of the ball. They could stonewall and shut down any offence and then unleash it’s high-powered offence to march down the field.

All of the gears and cogs moved in alignment to earn the GTA Allstars a perfect regular season posting 8 wins and 0 losses with 307 points for and only relinquishing 71 to all of their opponents. The GTA Allstars earned the first place berth in the NFC Championship. The first to fall was the returning North Bay Bulldogs who put up a valiant effort in their game against the defending champions but the score of 34- 0 sent them home. The Sarnia Imperials stepped up to the challenge after winning an exciting contest against the Ottawa Invaders. The GTA All Stars overcame the Sarnia team to advance to the finals 35-0.

The challengers in the finals, the Tri-City Outlaws, were a formidable force and the 2nd ranked team in the regular season with an impressive 6-2 record. It took the Dan Diagle lead offence to finally put points against the Allstars for the first time in the 2017 tournament. The Outlaws looked strong and ready. Then the tide shifted to the number one seed. The GTA Allstars then unleashed it’s offence to take advantage of the few minor mistakes made by the Outlaws to put up 29 points via touchdowns by play makers: Phil Dixon, Jahmeek Murray, Kevin Walsh and Quincy Van De Cruize. The GTA kicker Ovi Coca added four converts and a rouge to the point total. In the end the powerhouse Outlaw team couldn’t dethrone the champions. The GTA All Stars took home the title over a tough Outlaw team.

Congratulations to our 2017 NFC Champions the GTA Allstars. The dynasty continues as they reign once again holding the throne they first took in 2015, defended in 2016 and clutch with an iron grip in the 2017 season.

2017 Preseason Report

The Northern Football Conference Executive meeting in Barrie over the past weekend revealed the path of the NFC for the 2017 season.

A tentative schedule has been worked out giving the teams opportunity to prepare for NFC week 1 on May the 27th.  The schedule will be posted to the site in graphic form and then in a week by week breakdown.

Two teams rejoin the NFC. The Toronto Phantom Raiders are back after a rebuilding year and make up the fifth team in the NFC East. They join the Invaders, Longhorns, Patriots and the reigning NFC champions the GTA All Stars.

The North Bay Bulldogs return after a 6-year league hiatus rebuilding their football program from the ground up. The Bulldogs look to make an impact in the NFC West joining the Steelers, Spartans, Outlaws and the Imperials.

The NFC Preseason is in full effect. The teams are recruiting and training for a great NFC 2017 season.
