7. Toronto Phantom Raiders
8. Sault Steelers

NFC Power Ranking Breakdown

1. GTA All Stars
Current record 6-0

GTA is running the table. The tough part of their schedule was early on. They have their sights set on week 8 – when they will battle SCP. And rumor is they are keeping close tabs on Fort McMurray in the AFL.
……………………………………………………………

2. Ottawa Sooners
Current record 4-2

Ottawa is gearing up for a deep playoff run. The Sooners are proving to be a first-class organization from the top down. Looking forward to watching this team in the playoffs. Their only losses came from
GTA. They may not want credit but it’s been well earned.
…………………………………………………………..

3. Sarnia Imperials
Current record 4-2

The offense seems to have found its momentum. Sarnia is traditionally a hot or cold team. When they lose – they like to lose big. But when they win – the same holds true. With Oakville and the Sault left on their schedule – they have essentially wrapped up the West division.
……………………………………………………………

4. Steel City Patriots
Current record 6-0

The Patriots are down to the league’s top two teams to end the season. They played well against a struggling TCO team and now they get a shot at the top of the NFC. Look for them to rely on their defense too and big playmakers to get it done.
…………………………………………………………….

5. Tri City Outlaws
Current record 3-3

It’s gut-check time for the Outlaws. The defense seems to be holding it together. And the offense has some moments where they look like they regained their 2017 form. They have two weeks left to put it all together.
……………………………………………………………

6. Sudbury Spartans
Current record 2-4

The Spartans offense is starting to roll. They need a total team effort in TCO this week to secure 2nd place in the West and a home playoff date against either OTT or SCP. Their schedule finishes in North Bay. So it’s for all the marbles this week!!!

………………………………………………………….

7. Toronto Phantom Raiders
Current record 3-3

The Raiders had a chippy affair with Sarnia this week. They have the defending Champs up next before finishing off on the road in TCO. This team comes to play each week – hats off to the team for turning the program around.

…………………………………………………………….

8. Sault Steelers
Current record 2-4

The Steelers have a serious case of road woes. They travel light and that issue is going to hamper the team from moving forward. If you can’t get your best players to travel – your always going to be a .500 team. Lots of heart and they always bring it… they just need to get everyone to the game.

………………………………………………………….

9. Oakville Longhorns
Current record 0-6

The Horns are battling it out each week – despite the fact that half of last years team is playing with SCP. They understand the rebuilding process and they are committed to building it again.

………………………………………………………….

10. North Bay Bulldogs
Current record 0-6

The Dogs are taking their licks each week. They are rebuilding the program with youth and a core group that will be around for several years. Every week is a learning experience.

North Bay Locals inducted into NFC Hall of Fame

‘Football is the ultimate team game, that does not allow one player to succeed, without the efforts and contributions of the other 11 guys on the field’

A trio of local former North Bay Bulldogs senior football players were inducted into the Northern Football Conference Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The three former Bulldogs include quarterback Jason Ferriera, and wide receivers Steve Asselin and Greg Casey.

The announcement came at halftime between Bulldogs game in which the Senior Bulldogs fell 64-13 to Sarnia at the Steve Omischl Sportsplex Saturday night.

Ferriera was a five-time NFC All-Star, two-time NFC Offensive Player of the  Year, and two-time NFC MVP.

He also holds the single-season record for passing yards at 3200 and the single-season touchdown passing record of 33.

“Football is the ultimate team game, that does not allow one player to succeed, without the efforts and contributions of the other 11 guys on the field,” Ferriera said via Facebook.

“With that said, I wanted to send out thanks to all of my former teammates. Without you guys, this achievement would not have been possible. Thanks to the North Bay Bulldogs organization, for allowing me to enjoy the game of football for many years as a player, and hopefully many more as a coach.”

Asselin was a two-time NFC All-Star and a former NFC Offensive player of the year.

Casey is a former two-time NFC All-Star as well and holds the single-game record for receiving yards with 182.

Doug Steringa, who coaches currently in the Bulldogs program, was inducted as well.  Steringa spent time playing for Mississauga and Oakville of the NFC.

NFC Power Ranking Breakdown

1. GTA All Stars
Current record 5-0

Another week – another blowout win. This time the All Stars traveled light to Sudbury – even leaving their coaches behind. Didn’t matter – they found the field and took care of business.
……………………………………………………………

2. Ottawa Sooners
Current record 3-2

A less than impressive win over the Raiders but a win is a win. Looking for a little more offense out of this crew. In two weeks we get to see how they play against SCP – that’s a matchup worth watching.
…………………………………………………………..

3. Sarnia Imperials
Current record 3-2

The Imps rolled over North Bay on the weekend. The offense is still moving the ball well. Next up the Raiders where we can see how serious they are about making a run.
……………………………………………………………

4. Steel City Patriots
Current record 5-0

The Patriots destroyed the Sault -an opponent that TCO struggled with early in the season. That warrants a move up in the rankings. Next up is Tri-City, then Ottawa before a season-ending contest against GTA. Going to be an interesting few weeks for the Patriots.
…………………………………………………………….

5. Tri City Outlaws
Current record 3-2

The Outlaws offense got rolling in Oakville. That’s a good sign for them. The drop in rankings isn’t a hit on them as much as kudos to SCP for their victory over the Sault. A big game this week with SCP.
……………………………………………………………

6. Toronto Phantom Raiders
Current record 3-2

The Raiders held tough in Ottawa against a very strong Sooner team. The next 3 games are going to be tough – Sarnia, GTA and TCO. This team could surprise one or two over the last few weeks.

………………………………………………………….

7. Sault Steelers
Current record 2-3

The Steelers were crushed at home against a very strong Patriots team. Now they travel down the road for a rematch with Sudbury. This will be a very important game for them.

…………………………………………………………….

8. Oakville Longhorns
Current record 0-5

The Horns hung tough with TCO. They scored some points and as expected they aren’t rolling over for anyone. Expect more of the same over the next few weeks.

………………………………………………………….

9. Sudbury Spartans
Current record 1-4

This has been a disappointing season for the Spartans. GTA overpowered them this weekend. Now they have some winnable games to end off the campaign – Sault, TCO and North Bay.

………………………………………………………….

10. North Bay Bulldogs
Current record 0-5

They put up some points against Sarnia. They are hanging tough every week. It’s all about building for the future in North Bay.

PATRIOTS TACKLE HUNGER THEN TACKLE NORTH BAY BULLDOGS FOR FOURTH WIN

Saturday night The Steel City Patriots played host to the embattled and short benched North Bay Bulldogs in Northern Football Conference action. The Pats going into the game were looking to put on a good performance as they welcomed Purolator Courier and their Tackle Hunger program to Nelson stadium on a hot humid night.

The evening got underway as fans entered the stadium and dropped off non-perishable food items at The Purolator display and got comfortable in the stands for the game. Once the game got underway The Pats defence took over and scored 3 pick sixes in the first half on the way to a 47-0 lead over a hard-working but undermanned Bulldogs team.

In the second half The Dogs used some trickery to fool the Pats as they went for the short kickoff and recovered the ball but unfortunately couldn’t pull the trigger and score on the Pats defence. The Patriots used the game as an opportunity to get some of the back-ups into extended playing time and they came through with 15 points on two Tds by the offence and a 27 yd field goal by Adam Pallett to close out the scoring and making the final score 62-0. The score though does not indicate the type of game that was played as the Bulldogs could have gave up in the second half came out and played with everything they had from beginning to end and showed the class they have when they joined the Patriots at center field for a talk and team prayer and then joined the team back at Lotos bar and grill for some post game food and talk before heading home to prepare for this weeks test.

The Patriots now at 4-0 will travel up north to take on The Sault Steelers in Sault Ste Marie this Saturday before enjoying their bye week June 30th.

The Patriots, Bulldogs and their fans helped to takle hunger with 300 lbs of food donated to Purolator for their food drive and will be welcoming them back on July 14th at 6:00pm as they take on The Ottawa sooners at Nelson Stadium.

A pair of late touchdowns were ultimately the difference.

A 27-yard touchdown run by Josh Gauthier with 5:14 to go in the fourth quarter lifted the Sault Steelers to a 23-10 Northern Football Conference win over the Sudbury Spartans Saturday night at Rocky DiPietro field.

The major came with the Steelers trailing 10-8 at the time in a game that saw the home side fall behind 10-0 in the opening half.

“It was key,” said Steelers Coach Brandon Lewis. “It was vintage Josh.

Gauthier finished the day with 104 yards rushing on 11 carries and a pair of touchdowns.

The victory improves the Steelers record to 2-2 after a road win last weekend in North Bay.

“Everything you do in your first year is great but when you know the type of competitors we have on our team, it’s possible for us to push the best teams in this league,” Lewis said.

Sudbury opened the scoring on a 13-yard field goal in the opening quarter by Massimo Cimino.

In the final minute of the opening quarter, Sudbury’s Sean Moore caught a two-yard pass to increase the lead to 10-0.

“The first half seemed to be very tough on us, more mentally than anything,” Lewis said. “There were some mistakes and penalties to start the game. That can take a toll. We hung in.”

Steve Hiiemaa would run the ball in from 68 yards out late in the fourth quarter to seal the Steelers win.

Hiiemaa finished the day with 130 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Offensively for the Spartans, Josh Cuomo had 55 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Defensively for the Steelers, Matt Gauthier had six tackles while Dalton Povey had 5.5 tackles. Tom Twentyman had five tackles and Jon Bujold had 4.5.

Erik Conrad and Matt Furlino had six tackles each for the Spartans, who fall to 1-3.

The Steelers return to action on June 23 against the Steel City Patriots. Kickoff at Rocky DiPietro Field is set for 7 p.m.
